Health and Wellbeing (including Physical Education)
At the heart of our health-promoting school is the young person. We hope that the supportive and positive climate in the school influences the belief, attitudes and values of each person involved.
Health and wellbeing will be explored in the following broad areas:
- Mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing
- Planning for choices and changes
- Physical Education, physical activity and sport
- Food & health
- Substance misuse
- Relationships, sexual health and parenthood
At Morningside Primary School we have programmes of study for health including raising awareness regarding drugs.
Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood are also part of the school programme on Health Education. This programme will present facts in an objective, balanced and sensitive manner within a framework of sound values and awareness on the law and behaviour. All pupils will be encouraged to appreciate the value of family relationships and responsibilities, exploring the values placed on marriage by religious groups or others in Scottish Society.
Most of these lessons take place within the Health Programme although, where appropriate, it may be part of another curricular area e.g. Science.
We are currently implementing the ‘Better Movers, Better Thinker’s Programme’ from North Lanarkshire Council to improve our delivery of Physical Education.
