Science Investigations in Room 5
Room 5 carried out a science investigation into what might affect the size of a crater when a meteorite hits a planet. They investigated a number of variables including the size, shape and weight of the meteorite and the surface landing. They presented their results to the class and found that:
– the heavier the meteorite, the bigger the crater produced
– the bigger the meteorite, the bigger the crater produced.
– the flattest shapes made the biggest craters and
– the softer the landing surface, the bigger the crater.
They are looking forward to carrying out their next investigation!
Road Safety Community Action!
Today in response to Chloe’s letter sent to our local MP’s a site visit was arranged to discuss the road leading to Strathclyde Park. Pupils in Room 12 felt the road was dangerous due to a lack of pavement after the cemetery, during their recent visit to the park and wanted to do something to help.
Miss Law, Chloe, Gemma, Jack and Evan met with local councillors, Marina Lyle & Harry Curran and also Matt Costello – Local Regeneration Manager from North Lanarkshire Council to see what could be done about the situation.
Hopefully there will be news about extending the existing pavement soon.
Fun Friday In Room 7!
We were delighted to be awarded with class of the week.
We took the trophy with us as we started our Road to Rio challenge and took some photos along the way!
In P.E. we were practising our badminton and netball skills. A very active and fund day 🙂

Road to Rio Walk with R12
Room 12 are off to a great start with their walking to Rio! Today they enjoyed laps of the playground. Great fun!
Lots of Learning with Room 6!
Room 6 have been learning all about the 1970’s and 1980’s.
We learned that some of the toys we play with today have been around since the 1970’s
We walked around the school and found that we can collect information in lots of different ways. We did this ay home too as part of our homework.
We also had a food tasting of different foods from the 1970’s. We tried quiche and Angel Delight. We liked Angel Delight the best.
We have been playing Maths games using dice to help us with addition and subtraction.
Road to Rio!
In the build up to the Olympic games in Rio next summer, Lawmuir Primary has signed up to the ‘Road to Rio’ walking challenge. Each class will be taking part in this challenge starting on Monday 5th October. This will involve each class walking for 15 minutes around the senior playground once a week. Each time they complete their 15 minute sesion, they take another step on the map towards Rio de Janerio stopping off at different countries along the way including Athens, Moscow and London. There will be prizes awarded along the way including wrist bands, bouncy balls and a special prize when they finally reach Rio!
Each class has signed up on a different day of the week! Please see below for when you will need your waterproof jacket (in case of light rain!) and sensible shoes! P.E. kit is not required.
Monday – Rooms 3, 6 and 14
Tuesday – Rooms 1 and 5
Wednesday – Rooms 2, 10 and 17
Thursday – Rooms 9 and 16
Friday – Rooms 7, 12 and 13

Fabulous Rugby Sessions!
Room 5 have loved the rugby programme over the past 4 weeks. The coaches (Darren and Danny) who delivered the sessions were excellent and we were always excited to participate. During P.E we will continue to develop the skills we have learned over the block!
P.S – We even got our photo took with the two fabulous coaches!
