P3/4 to P7 had a very ingesting talk from Stuart who works with the Project Trust. He told us all about being a Global Citizen and that we should play our part in using our worlds resources ‘sustainably’. He also told us about making sure we play our part in Fairtrade which is something we have all been thinking about over that last week or so as it is Fairtrade Fortnight. I have some questions for you about yesterday’s talk, see how many you can answer and I will post the correct answers next week:)
1 How many litres of water do we use in a week?
2 How many people cannot get access to good quality water?
3 Which city was the example given about how water is not being used well?
4 How does this affect other countries?
5 Across the world what are some of the ways water is not used well?
6 Why are people in Namibia using water well?
7 What can we do to help?
Lets see how you get on…

So 150 times seven is 1050 so we use 1050litres a week
Last Vegas are stelling water fron Mexico and last Vegas are running out of water
The cities name was Los angeles which ran out of water when they used it and nearly dried the Colorado river
Los Angeles were using all the water and leaving Mexico with hardly any. Los Angeles had to start stealing water from other places.
U.S.A and Las Vegas are using too much water so Mexico and Brazil and any other countries near them are not getting enough water that they should have. I think we use around to 2000 to 6000 I think im close. America is only using the water for mostly swimming pools and hot tubes. The people in Namibia are using the water well because I think they are using water for growing fresh fruit and vegatables and also to drink. This affects other countries because when countries near them are using too much the other countries are not getting any at tall. We can help by every country in the world can share all the water and not using too much and no country has no water or every country can try to have a equal amount of water and if a country needs a wee bit more then borrow some water from different country or get some fresh water from the sea if its fresh and not salty. thanks for reading hope that was what u were looking for and sorry I never answered all the questions.
Thank you to those who have replied, 100 house points each!,
The correct answers are…
We use about 150 litres of water each in a week.
1 billion people are unable to access safe drinking water.
The city which was not using water well was Las Vegas.
Las Vegas used too much water drying up the Colarado River meaning Mexico could water their land and crops wouldn’t grow.
We don’t use water well by using more than we need and through pollution .
We can help by reducing the water we waste, avoiding polluting rivers and lochs and by helping people less fortunate than us.
Wow! That’s some great stuff everyone, I’m glad to see you all learned something and are still thinking about how important it is to look after water.
I actually gave this presentation again to Project Trust (the organization that sent me) and I used all of your suggestions and questions to make it even better, so I wanted to come back here and say thank you for all of your interest! If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them here.
