Minutes

  1. We discussed Eco week.  It will be held on 24th March.

Some of the suggestions for Eco week were:

  • Eco party in the hall.
  • Disco dancing not organised dancing.
  • Dressing up as something Eco friendly.
  • Planting bulbs.

2.  Invite in some guest speaker such as:

  • Park ranger.
  • Farmer.
  • Secondary school-greenhouse committee
  • Recycle team.

3.  Update evidence book.  We have purchased a new A3 evidence book that is better for the parents to be able to use when they visit the school.  We need to transfer information from our old book to our new book.  Book has to be placed in the parents room for all to be able to access.

4. Eco wall displays need to be updated with current photos.  We also need to return to updating our waste charts.

5. Litter monitors.  We have allocated litter monitors for the school.  It will be there job to count the litter left in the playground and record it our litter jotter.  They will also collect the litter using the litter pickers.  We need to ask Mrs Paterson if we can get litter pick badges so that the whole school know what they are doing.  Each week Mrs White will up-dated the hall wall charts to show how much litter has been found in our playground.

6.Children have been chosen to collect the Blue litter bins each week.  Mrs Heaney will weigh the bins and we will record the weight in our jotter.  Mrs White will update the charts in the hall with the weekly results.

7. Mrs Heaney will monitor and record the amount of Gas and Electricity the school are using.

  1. All of this information will be shared at weekly assemblies.

Litter Policy

Anti-Litter Policy

Rights

Our boys and girls have the right to learn in a clean and healthy environment.

It is our goal to create a litter-free school.

We should reduce, reuse and recycle waste wherever possible.

We should see these aims extending beyond the school gate.

All members of the school community have the right to suggest ways to improve the school environment.

Responsibilities

All members of the school community have a responsibility to:

not drop litter;

minimise waste;

use recycling facilities whenever possible;

pick-up litter they see lying around and

assist the school janitor in maintaining a clean site wherever possible.

All staff have a responsibility to support pupils in achieving these aims and have a responsibility to:

support pupils and help them deal with litter problems;

use recycling bins for all used paper;

use a scrap paper tray in class for drawing;

encourage children to use both sides of the paper;

empty bins regularly and

arrange and co-ordinate waste disposal from the site.

The school eco-team has a responsibility to:

provide adequate waste and recycling bins;

listen and respond positively to suggestions on how to improve the

school environment and

promote anti-litter education within the school and its curriculum.

The boys and girls in our school have a responsibility to:

follow the advice of the eco-team;

put their own litter into the correct waste bins;

use the scrap paper trays and

help everyone to keep a litter free environment.
