Primary 1 – Green Fingers

Each group in Primary one planted Amaryllis, Crocus and Hyacinth bulbs.  This caused great excitement as we waited to see which group’s Amaryllis would flower first.  When we returned after the holiday weekend we had a lovely surprise as the red group’s had a beautiful big flowering head. A week later, the green and blue group’s plants began to flower too.  Everyone has been admiring our lovely window display!

Primary 3/4 Castle Theme

Dykehead 2014 040

The children in Primary 3/4 are enjoying learning all about castles. They have transformed their class to have a royal banquet theme and the group of the week are rewarded by being able to sit at the  “Royal Table”.  At the moment, they are creating a wall display of a castle including a moat and a drawbridge. Over the coming weeks, they will work co-operatively in groups to plan and build their own castle model using recycled items.

The whole school took part in the Sign 2 Sing record breaking challenge on Friday 6th Feb. This involved singing a song and signing along with it using British Sign Language. The children really enjoyed learning the song and all the signs and performing it together at assembly. We also raised £91 for SignHealth, a deaf health charity. Thank you to everyone who donated! Now we just need to wait and see if we broke the world record for the most people signing and signing at the same time!

P1/2 Space

P1/2 have been learning about planets and stars through their Space theme. The children have enjoyed looking at the Solar System and ways to look at the planets from Earth. We used chalks to create pictures of the sun and the moon which was fun but very messy! The children were really interested in learning about the Northern Lights and created their own version of this using images from the internet as a stimulus.
