P3/4 Road Safety Day

Friday 27th March 2015 was Road Safety Day. The children in Primary 3/4 watched a video about Kerr, a young boy who was hit by a car and broke his leg. They discussed this scenario and the different emotions and difficulties around this situation. The children then took turns pretending to be Kerr in a drama activity. The rest of the class interviewed them and asked them about how they were feeling.

In another activity, the children created a story board about a road accident. They wrote about it and drew pictures to go along with the narrative.

They were also able to play a Road Safety game on the smart board. The game is similar to Snake and Ladders but the difference is, they had to answer questions about road safety correctly to be able to move around the board.P1020156 P1020157 P1020158 P1020159 P1020159 P1020160 P1020161 P1020162 P1020163 P1020164

Science Experiments – P3, P3/4 and P4

Some of the Primary 3-4 pupils have enjoyed carrying out Science Experiments during their Golden Time on a Friday afternoon.  So far they have made Lava Lamps using oil, water and salt, created explosive volcanoes and removed egg shells without breaking the eggs!!  The messier the experiment the better!!

Living Eggs

The school were excited to get a special delivery of living eggs last week. We all loved watching the eggs in the incubator and some of us were lucky enough to see a chick hatch! Tom saw one hatch and said when it came out, it had goo all over it! The girls’ football team saw one hatch just as they were waiting for their coach. The chick didn’t come out straight away. It broke the egg and the egg rocked and moved for a while. Eventually 7 chicks hatched and we have loved going to see them and hold them. All our chicks leave us today and we’ll be sad to see them go!DSC01791DSC01788DSC01790DSC01789DSC01771DSC01770

Solar Eclipse!

P6 had an amazing opportunity today to see the solar eclipse! We all went out with our special glasses on. It was really cloudy and we didn’t think we would see anything but we did see when the clouds cleared! Sophielee said the sun looked like a banana as the moon covered it! Keira said the sun we could see looked like  a strip of fire. Kenzie thought it looked like a paper cut out with orange paper underneath and black paper on top. Lewis thought the sun looked like a smiley face. As the moon covered more of the sun it started to get dark then as the moon moved on, it got lighter again. P6 thought it was beautiful and overwhelming!

Primary 3/4 Fairtrade Fortnight

During Fairtrade Fortnight, Primary 3/4 children learned about the cocoa plant and the products that can be made from the plant. They learned about the Dominican Republic and the farming that happens there. They then recorded the information by taking notes.

Primary 3/4 Health Week

The children in Primary 3/4 were very busy during our school’s Health Week. We were visited by a dental nurse who talked all about keeping  our teeth and gums healthy. We also learned about the Eatwell plate from a visitor, Mrs Duncan, who taught us about the different food groups and why they are important. This is known as Food for Fitness. There was an opportunity to go on a smoothie bike and then drink the smoothie afterwards! As well as all this excitement, we had a visit from our friend Iain from Getting Better Together and we were able to perform the circus skills he taught us last term now that we are experts.
