ZooLab visit to Primary 4

ZooLab paid a visit to Primary 4 on Monday 11th May. Ā Anthony brought some weird and wonderful creatures with him. Ā The children were able to hold and touch a corn snake, a giant cockroach, an African snail and a giant millipede. Ā They also saw a tarantula, a scorpion and a tree frog. Ā Anthony told the children some interesting facts about each creature and explained how animals are classified into groups such as molluscs, vertebrates, arachnids, etc.

The children were able to answer lots of Anthony's questions :)

Keeping Safe

The infant department are learning about keeping safe at home and in the community. Primary 2 were creating circuits and using batteries to light a bulb as part of learning about electricity. We were learning what to do if we had an accident and in the role play area we got the chance to use our first aid kit! In the construction area we built bridges to allow pedestrians to cross safely over railway lines safely.

Science Centre Visit

Primary 2 and 3 had a fantastic day out at Glasgow Science Centre before Spring break. We had lots of fun trying out all of the experiments! The highlight of the day was a visit to the planetarium where we got to see lots of star constellations. This was a great end to an exciting Space theme!DSCF0002 DSCF0016 DSCF0018 DSCF0022 1

Science Experiments – P3, P3/4 and P4

Some of the Primary 3-4 pupils haveĀ enjoyed carrying outĀ Science Experiments during their Golden Time on a Friday afternoon. Ā So far they have made Lava Lamps using oil, water and salt, created explosive volcanoes and removed egg shells without breaking the eggs!! Ā The messier the experiment the better!!

Living Eggs

The school were excited to get a special delivery of living eggs last week. We all loved watching the eggs in the incubator and some of us were lucky enough to see a chick hatch! Tom saw one hatch and said when it came out, it had goo all over it! The girls’ football team saw one hatch just as they were waiting for their coach. The chick didn’t come out straight away. It broke the egg and the egg rocked and moved for a while. Eventually 7 chicks hatched and we have loved going to see them and hold them. All our chicks leave us today and we’ll be sad to see them go!DSC01791DSC01788DSC01790DSC01789DSC01771DSC01770

Solar Eclipse!

P6 had an amazing opportunity today to see the solar eclipse! We all went out with our special glasses on. It was really cloudy and we didn’t think we would see anything but we did see when the clouds cleared! Sophielee said the sun looked like a banana as the moon covered it! Keira said the sun we could see looked like Ā a strip of fire. Kenzie thought it looked like a paper cut out with orange paper underneath and black paper on top. Lewis thought the sun looked like a smiley face. As the moon covered more of the sun it started to get dark then as the moon moved on, it got lighter again. P6 thought it was beautiful and overwhelming!
