Eco Garden

Some of the staff did some weeding in the garden during the summer holidays.   They also picked strawberries and dug up some potatoes.  There should be lots of potatoes, leeks and onions ready to be harvested by the time the children return to school.

The weeds have grown very quickly over the summer :(

Butterflies

Primary 4 have released their butterflies into the wild after watching them change from caterpillars to chrysalises to butterflies.  They flew off happily on a glorious sunny day 🙂DSCN0390 DSCN0391 DSCN0392 DSCN0393 DSCN0395 DSCN0396 DSCN0397

Thank you GREENSIDE NURSERY – Primary 4

We would like to say a great big thank you to Greenside Nursery, Newhouse, who donated over 200 plug plants to the school.  Every child in the school has planted up their flower into a bigger pot.  When the weather improves, and the danger of frost is past, they will be planted our in the garden.  Here are some photos of Primary 4 busy gardening!IMG_9335 IMG_9337 IMG_9339 IMG_9340 IMG_9336

Eco Garden

Some of the children were shocked to find lots of glass bottles and broken glass in the garden.  They had been thrown over the fence.  There were sharp pieces of glass all over the slabs, gravel and picnic bench.  It could have caused serious injury!  We hope it doesn’t happen again.IMG_9341 IMG_9342 IMG_9343

ZooLab visit to Primary 4

ZooLab paid a visit to Primary 4 on Monday 11th May.  Anthony brought some weird and wonderful creatures with him.  The children were able to hold and touch a corn snake, a giant cockroach, an African snail and a giant millipede.  They also saw a tarantula, a scorpion and a tree frog.  Anthony told the children some interesting facts about each creature and explained how animals are classified into groups such as molluscs, vertebrates, arachnids, etc.

The children were able to answer lots of Anthony's questions :)

Eco Garden

The children across the whole school are working in the Eco Garden and using it as a place for outdoor learning. Each class have been assigned their very own flower bed to take care of. The children in Primary 3/4 have visited the garden for an art activity and the have also planted some flowers. The flowers will stay in their class room, where the children can look after them and water them until the warmer weather. Then they will transfer the flowers from their pots into a flower bed in the garden.
