In January each year, on a date determined by North Lanarkshire Council, parents/carers residing within the catchment area of the school must register their child if the child will be five years of age on or before the end of February of the ensuing year.
Information regarding enrolment of Primary 1 pupils is advertised in the local press, notices displayed in local shops and across the school and the Council’s social media channels. Anyone wishing information should contact the school and arrange an appointment with the Head Teacher.
For parents/carers of children seeking to join the school during a session please contact the Head Teacher.
STARTING SCHOOL FOR THE FIRST TIME
Starting school is a very important time for you, your child and the school. We all need to work together to make the transition smooth and rewarding. In the term prior to their entry, pupils will be invited into school for a visit. This will help them become more familiar with the surroundings and routines of the school. During this period, there will be a programme for parents/carers to discuss our partnership with you and talk about your child’s early days at school.
The Early Years Curriculum is grounded in play. Through practical activities, purposeful play and talk, pupils develop an understanding of the world and the basic concept they will need for their later learning. Parents/carers play a major role in fostering good attitudes to learning, developing good language skills and promoting good behaviour.
In school we follow the Curriculum for Excellence. We aim to develop children’s personal, social and emotional wellbeing; promote positive attitudes and dispositions towards their learning; provide opportunities to develop social skills as well as developing language and communication, reading and writing, maths, knowledge and understanding of the world and physical and creative development.
ENROLMENT FROM OTHER SCHOOLS
In order for transition from another school to Cambusnethan Primary School to be as seamless as possible, every effort is made to liaise with other schools to provide relevant information about a child’s educational and emotional development.
