We had a fantastic training session today with Mr McKendrick and Miss McMahon. We learned what it means to be a peer mediator and started to develop the skills and responsibilities we will use in our new roles.
Here are some important things we have learned so far:
Don’t ask closed questions – Danielle
Don’t take sides in a peer mediation circle – Gemma
Try not to judge – Caitlin
Think, look and listen to your peers – Bethany
Keep your emotions in check – Olivia
Sort it all out fairly – Jack
Other children can’t be forced into sorting things out – Kelsey
No accusations should be made – Rachael
Take a neutral position – Cameron
Show you are listening by looking at the speaker – Martin
Peer Mediation sounds like a very responsible thing to learn how to do. I would love to try that out in my school. Maybe you could pass on some ideas to us in St. Brigid’s?
We would recommend Peer Mediation because it is a great responsibility. We will let you know how our Peer Mediation goes when we start our timetable next week.

Peer mediation sounds like a very worthwhile skill to learn. The children will be able to apply it during their time at school and in their day-to-day life too.
