Parent Council

The Parent Council is the formal representative body for parents with children attending St Matthew’s Academy. The Parent Council is made up of parents/carers, a Church representative appointed by the Bishop, and the Head Teacher.

What does the Parent Council do?


The role of the Parent Council is to:

  • Support the school in every aspect of its work;
  • Represent the views of all parents/carers;
  • Encourage the links between the school, parents, pupils, and the wider community;
  • Report back to the wider Parent Forum;
  • Consider the Head Teacher’s report on school matters at each meeting;
  • Be involved in the appointment of Senior Leadership positions: Head Teacher and Depute Head Teachers;
  • Be involved in school inspections undertaken by Education Scotland

The Parent Council does not pursue issues regarding individual pupils or parents.

The Parent Council can also be contacted by post, addressing any correspondence to the Parent Council.

You can also approach any current member of the Parent Council to take forward agenda items. Any parent/carer is welcome to attend Parent Council meetings.
