Pupil Voice

As part of our plans for improvement we aim to provide our pupils with many opportunities to lead their own learning.

Pupils will feel valued and supported in developing a school that meets their needs.

Through this process we also aim to give them real life meaningful experiences which involve them working collaboratively and think creatively to solve problems.

Building the Curriculum 4; Supporting children to develop and apply skills as part of CfE.

Development of skills is essential to learning and education and helping develop the 4 capacities.

It is about creating lifelong learners who can reach their full capacity.

Skills need to be developed across all contexts.
CfE is firmly focused on learner and providing a variety of opportunities.

We must facilitate Pupil Voice and encourage our children to lead their own learning, take more responsibility and work more independently.

To provide children with the opportunities to develop these skills we encourage:

Routines that ensure pupils always know what they do next and what is expected of them
eg.
Coming into activities to ensure no dead time, clear daily programmes, extension tasks.
Children leading assembly.
Classes sitting in Houses and House Captains managing behaviour.

House points awarded for good behaviour.
Children choosing songs, organising pupil news.

SMT regularly meet Pupil Committees and House Captains to discuss issues.

Lunchtime monitors.

Independent and active learning areas.

As a school we always try to think innovatively about our approach to change and an aspect we have developed is to have committees.

Committees offer children the opportunity to make a positive and active difference to their school and covers a wide variety of aspects of school life.

The children are also able to meet and get to know other children from different classes and work cooperatively with a variety of people.

This will provide a whole overview as to the impact our pupils can make on school improvement.

Pupils will also be timetabled to share their committee plans at assemblies to ensure all pupils know what changes are developing and they will share ideas.

Parents are also made aware of groups and can volunteer to help. A letter will be issued with a list of groups and we will ask for parents with any particular interest in these groups to come and help.
