On the first day of the community gardens, we started to pick up leaves that we saw while we were walking about. Some of the leaves were the same type. We had oak leaves, holly leaves, ivy, and much more! I learned that just because some leaves look similar, doesn’t mean that they’re the same.
After that, we raked up some leaves and worked as a team to put them in bags. We all either had a rake or one or two scoops. Once we had cleared about half of the leaves we left them in the bags and I learned that if you leave the leaves for long enough (about 2-3 years) then they will turn into compost.
Then we drew a design for some fairy doors on pieces of paper which we would then paint on our doors. I learned how interesting it can be for smaller children to see the doors and think about the fairies inside them.
After that, we went down to the beach to learn all about sea life. A Marine Biologist taught us all about sea snails and barnacles and other things like seaweed. I learned that barnacles can start to grow on rocks after 6 months.
On the 2nd week, we all got either a wheelbarrow, a shovel, or a rake. The people with the shovels put some wood chips, from a big pile of wood chips, into a wheelbarrow and then the people with the wheelbarrow pushed them to a path and tipped it all out so then the people with the rakes could spread it all out all over the path so that it would turn into the soil so people can easily walk over it. I learned that after a few months then the wood chips would turn into soil.
Then we went back to the barn to paint the fairy doors we drew the design for the week before. I had drawn some squiggly lines going down the door over some brown paint to make it look like an old creaky door. I learned how much easier it is to paint when you have a design and know what you are going to paint.
After that, we went outside to go to the fire pit to toast some marshmallows and some bread over the fire. we all got 2 marshmallows and one bit of bread each. I learned how tasty toasted marshmallows are.
On the 3rd time of coming to the community gardens we watered all of the plants in the greenhouses and everybody had a watering can. Some of the plants in the greenhouse were quite unusual like seaweed. we used rainwater that the community gardens had put in barrels to water all of the plants because rainwater is more acidic than tap water.
After that, we made wreaths out of sticks and leaves and I learned that some sticks can be bent to make a circle.
On the 4th week, we went back down to the beach to put some rocks on a big rock pile so that on bonfire night the community gardens can put the bonfire on the rocks so that the fire won’t damage the grass. I learned how many things you can get done when you work as a team.
After that, we went to the back of the gardens to try and find worms so we could be told all about the different types of worms. We found a massive worm that was in the wood chips that we had raked out a few weeks before. I learned that there was more than just one type of worm.
After that, we went out to put some hedgehog houses in some places in the gardens. All the places were warm and dry. I learned where hedgehogs like to live.
Literacy and Languages
In class, we have been learning French and we know the numbers, how to say my name is Sean, how to say what the weather is like today and how to describe how you look and other people look. For example, my name is Sean in French is Je m’ appellle Sean. To describe yourself you can say Mon Anniversaire c’est le (my birthday is on) Vingt Juillet (20th of July).
Numeracy and Mathematics
Health And Wellbeing
during our indoor learning at our houses, we have been doing the Joe Wicks PE session. I enjoy it and sometimes do it with my mum. I learned that even if we aren’t used to some things they get easier as you do them.
Expressive Arts
In art, we were learning about Antoni Gaudi. We had to make a PowerPoint about him and his work and we watched a BBC Bitesize clip about him. I learned that he was an architect and an artist. His art was the buildings he made. There is one building that is still being made today called Sagrada Familia.
Religious And Moral Education
Sciences
For science, we have been doing different types of experiments about buoyancy and Mass. The one I am doing at the moment is: you need to put an egg in vinegar and leave it there for 72 hours (3 days). After that, you need to delicately rub the shell off and the egg will be like a bouncy ball. You can put it in a bowl full of water and any color of food dye and the egg will change color.

Personal Achievement
This Sunday I went to Ayr academy to play in an indoor mini cricket tournament. I play for the Irvine Royal cricket club 12 and overs but Ayr brought their under 10’s. We still played them but it wasn’t as good as the 2nd match. We won the first match by 23 runs and the 2nd one we won by 12. In the 2nd match, I bowled out 2 people and ran out 3. The 2nd match was better than the 1st because both teams were the same standard.
On Sunday the 10th of May me and my family I went to the back of Fairlie to see a plane wreck from world war two. It was a long walk but it was worth it. we walked about 7.2 miles and the view at the top was amazing.
On Thursday the 14th of May I and my mum went on another walk to see a different plane wreck. We brought some walking sticks to help us walk up steep bits of the hill and it was a good idea to bring them because the walk was very steep. Even with the sticks, the walk was hard but I still managed it. When we finished we had walked 5.9 miles.
Scottish Afternoon
On Friday the 21st of February we had a Scottish afternoon. We had Scottish highland dancing, a Tam ‘O Shanter poem recital, and a play to go along with it. I was Nanny who is the witch that grabs Meg’s tail and takes the tail off.
