Settling into Dalry Early Years

SETTLING IN PROCEDURES

The first few weeks when a child is settling is a time of crucial importance to their later happiness within the Centre. The need for procedures is to ensure that all children feel happy, safe and secure within the Nursery.

The “settling in” time will vary from child to child or family to family.  The time your child spends within the Nursery is flexible and is guided by how well you child copes within the playroom.

First Day      You will meet with your child’s Keyworker, complete the enrolment paperwork and discuss allergies, likes dislikes etc.  Your child may visit the playroom and if feeling confident can remain there whilst the paperwork is completed in the Parent’s Room.

Stage 1         Your child will come into Nursery for at least an hour, parents/carers will be encouraged to go to the Parent’s Room for a tea or coffee.  Parents/carers MUST remain within the building during this time.

Stage 2        Your child will have a longer time within the playroom, again, this is flexible, depending on how he/she is settling.  Parents/Carers MUST remain within the building during this time.

Stage 3        By this time, staff usually have an idea of how the settling in process is going, your child’s Keyworker will discuss the plan from here on.

*Children who attend full time/2 ½ day model or transferring from another nursery, will have an individual Settling In/Transition which will be discussed with your child’s Keyworker whilst completing the necessary paperwork.

Try to stay positive and remember that some children may take longer to settle than others.  The playroom has up to 60 children and lots of play areas so it can be a lot to cope with, especially when they are learning new routines/faces and building new friendships
