There are lots of activities being uploaded to Google Classroom and you should be working your way through the tasks as and when you can. Well done to those who have started those tasks, in order to achieve National 4 units/full course, you have to complete the tasks that we are assigning.
Ways in which you can continue to work on Music Technology projects:
Software – due to the covid 19 outbreak, a number of companies are providing free licensing for music technology software. I have been in touch with Mixcraft and they will hopefully be providing me with licenses for you to continue working at home. If you do not have a PC this will not work for you, although if you have any apple products you can use garageband. Other sites that are providing software trials for extended periods of time include AVID (protools) and reaper. There are a number of apps that also include music technology software – ask for advice if you are unsure.
You could complete a foley task, which we could provide a PowerPoint template for you to complete and help you download appropriate film clips. You could use your phone to record foley and fin sound effects online.
Some things that will help with your understanding of Music Technology concepts include:
Sound Gym – you have to sign up to this website, it’s free and there are lots of things for you to look at and learn about. Every day you can try training, including panning, EQ and volume, helping to improve your ears and your understanding of some of these effects and processors. You can also track and analyse your progress, to see how you are progressing each time you visit.
YouTube there are videos for every single effect you need to know about. Type in reverb/delay/chorus/EQ/distortion/overdrive etc into the search bar and find lots of videos for you to find out more. Make some notes to help you remember what they mean. Go to the ARDROSSAN MUSIC DEPT channel and find playlists to help focus your learning.
Musipedia – this website has definitions and audio links for every concept you need to know. These are key vocabulary words you need to learn as part of your Music Technology course. As a general rule pupils should learn the following key words:
S3 pupils – You should work your way through and learn National 3, 4 and 5 concepts.
S4 pupils – National 5 pupils – you should work your way through ALL concepts to prepare for Higher next session. National 4 pupils – you should work your way through all concepts, apart from Higher ones. Especially if you are intending to do National 5 music next session.
S5 pupils – If you’re currently National 5 and thinking about doing Higher music next year, start working through all the concepts.
Nat 4 and 5 pupils – Even though you will not be sitting an exam this year, many of you will be thinking about doing National 5 or Higher next session. Therefore, you MUST continue to revise your concepts.
Higher – A big part of Higher Music Technology is Technological developments. You will be asked to go into detail of a development (but you will only be given the choice of 3 to choose from!) so need to have a good understanding of all developments. Here is a link to a sway to help you get started:
And here is how a Higher Music Technology paper is laid out:
