Litter Action Plan
(i) LEAMS Project( Local Environmental Audit and Management System )
This project is a Pilot Project which North Ayrshire Council (NAC) Streetscene Department along with Kilwinning Academy Pupils are working together to improve the standard of cleanliness in the local environment. The LEAMS process is structured so that all local authorities in Scotland carry out exactly the same monitoring programme to allow for full comparison of results with each other.
Local shopkeepers involved in this project along with Campus Police Officer.
(ii) Zero Litter Zero Waste Project
- Project linking (NAC) Streetscene Department and Kilwinning Academy Eco Group
- £11.5K grant for project
- 60 litter pickers and associated apparatus purchased through grant
- Provision of new bin system for school which can be monitored to promote, as the title suggests, ‘Zero Litter and Zero Waste
- Whole school poster competition to raise awareness of the issue with 3 prize-winners ( Prizes – Kindle, 2 Nikon cameras )
- Final poster worked on by the three winners to be displayed within the local community January 2013
- Local Councillors were judges in this project.
Eco group along with House Captains did powerpoint presentation to whole school on this project to raise awareness.
