S3 Music Technology

What is the course?

The S3 Music Technology course is a modern, digital creative course, that give you the confidence to capture, manipulate audio and produce a range of creative digital works.  Music Technology – does not require you to play an instrument.

  • Create sound maps and then record audio files for a short film clip including sound effects, dialogue and music
  • Use multi track recording software and different types of audio recording devices
  • Evaluate your skills development in capturing and recording audio then identify goals and appropriate strategies to achieve them
  • Appreciate music made in the 20th and 21st century that uses music technology by identifying techniques the sound engineer and musicians used to get the desired effect

How will I learn?

Personalised pace and challenge is at the heart of the music technology curriculum.  Pupils will use industry standard software to capture (record) audio for movies, gaming, audio books and more.  Pupils will develop a working knowledge of different hardware ie microphones, so they can successfully select the correct type for the recording situation.

Active learning will be used to track the development of music technology in the 20th and 21st century.

You need to be enthusiastic to learn new skills and knowledge and have a determination to produce work that is of excellent quality.

  • Technology Skills with a focus on audio capture and manipulation.
  • Hardware application, care and maintenance.
  • Music technology developments in the 20th and 21st century.
  • Sound effect creation, recording and processing.

As part of the BGE, your S3 personalisation will help build the knowledge and skills required for a successful senior phase.  Successful completion of the S3 Music technology course will give you the evidence required to be presented for National 5 Music Technology in the senior phase.

How will I be assessed?

Your progress on the course will be assessed through a combination of continuous and final assessment.  The large assessment is folio work based.
