  • Learners also gain an understanding of the impact of design and manufacturing technologies on our environment and society
  • Allow development in Graphic Communication and Engineering Science

How will I learn?

The learning takes the format of whole class direct teaching opportunities followed by activity based learning on practical tasks.

Throughout the year you will take part in Design Folios, building up your skills in presenting ideas and developing them to a final product.  You will then have the opportunity to make a prototype model of your idea either in the classroom or workshop.

You will be actively involved in developing your own skills, knowledge and understanding by investigating a range of real-life and relevant

What topics will I learn?

  • Graphic sketching
  • Designing ideas
  • Material selection
  • Manufacturing

As part of the BGE, your S3 personalisation will help build the knowledge and skills required for a successful senior phase. Completing the S3 Design and Manufacturing course covers many of the technologies outcomes and supports progression to National Design & Manufacture and Engineering Science courses (National 4-Higher) along with developing essential skills used in many other subjects.

What skills are developed?

The course is intended to develop skills that will help you in the workplace or further learning when you leave school.   Design and Manufacture develops skills in:
