NPA Bakery (S4 only)

What is the course?

The National Progression Award (NPA) in Bakery at SCQF level 4 builds on previous skills and knowledge allowing you to develops practical bakery skills in craft baking, bread making, cake decoration and pastry making. This award will develop life skills but is also useful for those who are interested in pursuing a career in the bakery or catering industries. Many transferrable skills will be developed such as communication, teamwork, leadership , time management, resource management and planning.

This course will help to prepare candidates for a career in the hospitality industry which has a diverse range of courses for a range of specialisms.  Some pupils choose to complete an apprenticeship, go to College or enter the workplace.  Essential life skills will be developed along with many transferrable skills useful for other courses and future career pathways.

Your progress on the course will be assessed through continuous assessment of your practical skills and final skills and knowledge assessments.

What might this help me with when I leave school?

The Scottish Food and Drink Industry employs 50,000 people.  Careers include Baker, Professional Cook, Food Manufacturing careers, Product Development roles, careers in the Hospitality Industry.  There are many routes into these careers including modern apprenticeships, City and Guilds, SVQs , HNC, HND and Degree level courses.
