S3 Physical Education – Improving Performance

What is the course?

The course is mostly made up of practical lessons, with some sessions based in the classroom and is a more in depth study of Physical Education than provided in Core PE.  The course covers some fantastically interesting content such as;  The Human Body in Action, Activities, Skills and Skill Development and Tactics.  The course ultimately studies how to enhance performance through encouraging learners to evaluate their own performance and plan for future improvement.  These skills and planning tools are transferable into improving performance in any subject area or aspect of wider life.  The course is well suited to all those who love being active and are interested in practical performance!

How will I learn?

Lessons are predominantly practical in nature on a range of different activities.  There are various opportunities for learners to work independently and as part of a team to be successful.  Learners are also often responsible for leading their own learning through planning their own personal development.

The practical element of this course is underpinned by some theory periods which are sometimes based in the classroom, although we do constantly try to incorporate as much practical experiential learning as possible.

What topics will I learn?

  • More in-depth knowledge of how to develop your practical performance in a range of activities
  • Different approaches to improve your general health, fitness and wellbeing
  • How your body works during different movements and how it reacts as you exercise
