Higher

Higher Geography is open to any student who has shown the ability to work at N5 level (even if you have not studied N5 Geography).

It is a well-respected Higher that sits between the Sciences & the Social Subjects.

Students who study Higher Geography can expect to investigate:

  • Physical Environments: coastal landscapes, glaciated landscapes, biosphere, hydrosphere & atmosphere
  • Human Environments: population, urban change, rural land degradation
  • Global Issues: development & health and a second topic (climate change or energy)

Students will also develop their map, graphical and data interpretation skills through decision-making scenario exercises.

All students will conduct a research project exploring development & population issues around the world.  This can form the basis of their Higher Assignment.

Higher Geographers also take part in a field work day to the Cairngorms to investigate glaciated & river landscapes, upland land-use and landscape management.

Use the drop-down menu for information on each of the themes.
