Today ten P6 pupils went to a Kwik Cricket festival in Fochabers. They went with Mrs Mitchell. Although they did not get through to the next round in Perth, they played well and represented the school well.

We took part in a very successful but rather cold ‘Litter Pick’ starting in Buckie on the ‘Liney’and working along to Portessie. The children from Portessie school then cleaned from Portessie to Findochty. We were pleasantly surprised that there was not as much litter as we expected. Tesco helped organise the event and thanked us for our help.
We have now finished our recycling challenge! We are very pleased with the results. Miss Murray is pleased too as we were focusing on skills such as valuing everone’s opinion, compromising, encouraging and problem solving. We would not have achieved such good results if we had not used these skills. We had very original ideas as you can see from the variety of items produced. We made everything from a cookie monster to a submarine!
Today we have been busy working in our groups planning what we are going to make for our new group challenge. It is to make a toy suitable for a 4 year old child which is made from things which have been discarded.
We have discussed ideas in our groups. Each person then had to sketch their toy and present it to the others. We then decided which one to make.
In the photos you can see us busy drawing out the annotated diagrams and listing all the resources we need. Each group has to bring in their own materials/waste items so please do not throw away your junk!
The next stage is actually making the toy. Then we will evaluate how well we worked together and how successful we were in meeting the success criteria.
We will post pictures when we have completed the challenge.
Some pupils in P6 have been learning how to ride their bikes safely by taking part in ‘Bikeability’. The training has taken place each day this week. Today is their final session before being assessed on Monday to see if they can put into practice what they have been taught. It will be a nail-biting time until they get their results and see if they have passed.
It doesn’t finish there though. The skills they have learned need to be remembered every time they go out on their bikes. We have our fingers crossed and wish them good luck.
This term we are going to be studying Pollution and Conservation. We have thought about and shared what we already know about this subject. In the photo you can see us doing a carousel activity to gather information.
Next we are going to suggest ideas of what we would like to learn about this topic and the types of activities we’d like to d o. We are looking forward to it.
We peer assessed our homework challenges on Europe. We had to keep the success criteria in mind when deciding who to give our votes to. We had many different types of presentations to choose from. There were posters, booklets and brochures to choose from. As you can see from the photos a lot of careful thought and consideration went into making the decision.
When the votes were counted we had five clear winners. Well done to Cameron Ritchie,Meaghan Smith, Neve Paterson,Ellie Cormack and Muir Duthie who all got a Golden Ticket and five House Points for their good work. Muir was declared the overall winner. He included a photo, coins and even some sand from Tenerife on his poster!
Today we enjoyed a very successful Open Morning. We worked hard to plan, organise and present a big selection of activities to demonstrate what we have been learning about Europe. We had lots of fun and enjoyed having parents and friends in school with us. We were very impressed with how you all joined in and were very good sports trying all the challenges we set up for you. It got very competitive at times! Well done to the prize winners!
We would like to thank you for coming along and to thank you for the very positive feedback we received. We will upload a selection of photos once our photographers have reviewed them.
We really enjoyed our talk from Carol from the SSPCA. We learned a lot and she really made us think. We had to pretend we were working for the SSPCA and deal with problems which arose. This involved prioritising cases, choosing appropriate equipment and using the skills necessary to undertake a rescue. Although dealing with a very serious topic you can see we managed to have some fun too.
As part of our context on Europe we have been making pictures in the style of Henri Rousseau a well known European artist. He made very imaginative jungle pictures. He lived in Victorian times and had never been to the jungle so sometimes he got things wrong. In one picture he put bananas upside down! We all made a lovely job of our pictures mixing and using lots of lovely shades of green and putting in lots of detail. We are very proud of them. Jay took his one through to show Mrs Garrity as it is one of his best pieces of work.
