As part of our math work, P1/2 have been learning about measure.
Over the last week we have been looking at length and have used both non-standard and standard units of measure to help us find out how long an object is. We started off by using cubes to measure objects in the classroom (we also said that we could use other things to measure such as our hands, feet and pencils!) and yesterday took our learning outside to do some measure with meter sticks – yes children meter sticks, not “extra big rulers” or “long measure thingys”, all reasonable suggestions, but let’s remember the correct vocabulary 🙂
We have also being practising using our estimating skills to predict how long an object will be when using cubes and have had to think about whether outside objects are shorter or longer than 1 meter.
The class will focus on length for a few more sessions and then we will move onto weight and capacity.
