Nursery to P3 Eco Group

The early years Eco Group have decided that they would like to transform an unused area of the infant playground into and Eco/Fairy Garden.

The group decided that they wanted to encourage beasties, birds and fairies to come and live in their playground. We had a discussion about what we wanted to do to encourage this. The pupils wanted to plant bushes and flowers that the beasties and birds would like. They also wanted to put a fence round the area to keep it safe and they wanted something to sit on while they were in the garden.

We contacted Speyside Cooperage and asked them if they would be able to help us with seating. Mr Munro came along to our second meeting and told us about his job as a Cooper.

He brought some barrels with him that had been recycled from the whisky industry and made into seats for our area. We are so grateful for Speyside Cooperages kind donation and were keen to try out the seats for ourselves. We think they are perfect! 🙂

We also contacted Dufftown in Bloom and asked them if they could help us turn our ideas into reality. Anne Fraser from Dufftown in Bloom has offered to come to our meetings and share her gardening expertise with us. We told her all our ideas and she shared some of hers with us. She also told us about Dufftown in Blooms recent success and have asked us to be ‘Dufftown’s Little Bloomers’ and help the group to make Dufftown an even more beautiful place. We were really excited! 🙂

Two members of our group helped Mrs Fraser and Mrs Darroch to measure the two sides round the wooded area that don’t have fence at the moment.

Then we contacted Keith Builders Merchants and gave them they measurements. They have kindly donated all the materials that we will need to build our fence. Mrs Darroch’s husband, and some of his friends for Glenfiddich, have said that they will build the fence for us. We are so grateful to them for giving up their time.
