Since 2006 involved in cultural exchange with arts psychotherapists from the Russian Federation developing trans -cultural trainings & online resources, especially for teachers, educational psychologists & therapists working with families suffering negative effects of trauma & deprivation.

Work Experience:  I have over 30 years’ experience in applying, developing & adapting art therapy theory & practice for a wide range of groups & contexts across Scotland, from community arts, art in prisons & adult community education to individual art psychotherapy in acute & long-term psychiatry in hospitals & schools.

I now work independently & am based in Moray. I can take referrals from GPs, Social Work, employers & other agencies as well as self referrals from individuals. When  working from my home art studio I use selection criteria designed to safeguard myself & my clients: eg: I do not tend to work with children below 8yrs of age or children/youth/ adults suffering with severely challenging behaviour or acute psychosis.

I am available to provide group & individual sessions at other locations with appropriate premises, or occasionally home visits, by arrangement. My specific services are listed in my websitebeverleyacourt.wordpress.com

I am available for customised CPD & training sessions (2 hrs – 5 days) (Experiential Workshop-Seminars) for Arts, Health, Education & Social Care professionals wishing to learn more about:

  • What Art Psycho/therapy is & what it typically involves & some applications.
  • The Therapeutic Art  <—-> Art Psycho/Therapy  spectrum. ‘Recreational’ art (by unqualified practitioners) with vulnerable children & adults – an art therapy view of positive & negative implications.
  • How art therapy works, what art therapists are trained to do & why: The ‘Presenting Past’; the power of transference & other unconscious & destructive processes in art-making.
  •  Effectiveness, Positive Indicators  & Contra-Indications for using art with clients/service users.
  • When to refer to a qualified art therapist.
  • Professional, Best Practice & Evidence-based Issues.
  • Therapist & volunteer self-care; using art therapy & visual-sensory approaches as tools in individual & team supervision.

I would be very interested to offer throughout Moray, Highland & Aberdeenshire:

  • Pilot series:  Parent-Child Dyadic Art Therapy sessions (Creative Parenting project; with co -facilitator art therapist Kathy White)
  • Pilot series:  Family Art Therapy Workshop sessions – perhaps in conjunction with the Youth Justice dept. or other agencies in Moray. Introducing self-awareness processes, communication & art activities as supportive learning for families.
  • Sessions, courses or service designed to meet specific local needs – eg support for family Well-Being, Parenting Issues.
  • Workshops to introduce & accompany my OUT-of-the-BOX self-help project to Carers:  Compact, portable table-top art box kits, with handbooks of exercises to be used alone at home, with a cared-for person or within carer’s support groups. Specific adaptations possible for those living with long term conditions. A pilot – 3 months use with follow-up feedback workshop-seminar.

Staff CPD sessions /ongoing course – eg: Introduction to Art Therapy processes, or on a specific aspect/theme in art therapy.

Trained both as a sculptor and printmaker at the Royal College of Art I have experience in a broad spectrum of disciplines including all levels of education and work for the National Theatre Scotland Outreach Programme. This enables me to offer projects which are tailor-made for each individual situation.

Current specialities include mosaic using re-cycled tile, and painted low reliefs for either interior or exterior settings.

Recent commissions include a mosaic sundial for WDCS Scottish Dolphin Centre Spey Bay in collaboration with Milnes High School, and a painted triptych for Carronhill Special School, Stonehaven.
