Senga Munro – Biography
Having listened to her grandmother’s tales as a child “straight frae the mooth”, Senga Munro continues the family tradition of storytelling by sharing Scottish and Hungarian folk tales, reworked ballads, environmental stories and family life.
A teacher of 30 years, (the last ten with traveller children) and now retired, Senga works with nursery to primary classes and small groups of secondary school children, encouraging storymaking and storytelling. In her education work Senga has found storytelling to be an invaluable tool for developing the imagination and problem-solving skills. She has led workshops with teachers and parents throughout Scotland and was a co-leader in a workshop to encourage children to participate in the regeneration plans for their town. Senga is particularly interested in using Scots language and has experience in the field of Special Education.
Senga was born in Fife where she has lived all her life. An active member of the local community, she has been enjoying telling stories in Fife schools throughout her teaching career and since her retirement in 1998. In 2002, she presented a paper at the Narrative and Interactive Learning Environment Conference on storytelling in Scottish schools.
