An event in life that a child finds overwhelmingly distressing or
emotionally painful
. This often results in lasting mental and physical effects.

Trauma as a Barrier to Learning

  • Difficulty self-regulating.
  • Difficulty forming relationships.
  • Struggle to trust adults.
  • Negative thinking.
  • Hypervigilance.
  • Difficulty concentrating.
  • Memory problems.
  • Organisational problems.
