Birds of Prey @ Finlaystone

Last Friday at Finlaystone Park, pupils from Lomond View Academy spent some time with Hootenanny Owls. Staff and pupils were introduced to a variety of birds of prey, including owls, falcons, eagles and a very noisy Australian Kookaburra. We learned  a lot of interesting facts about these birds and the best part of the day was being able to handle the birds. Thanks to all at Hootenanny Owls and the staff at Finlaystone.

Top Scots Author visits Lomond View

This week we enjoyed a visit from ‘The Young Team’ author Graeme Armstrong. Graeme talked to us about his early years growing up in Airdrie, the adverse childhood experiences which affected him and his eventual route into a life of gangs, alcohol and drug addiction. Graemes story is profound, almost harrowing at times and his determination and bravery to escape this life can only be described as heroic. Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Graeme and are very grateful for the books he autographed for them.

Fun & Active Fridays

Every Friday the BGE will take part in some outdoor learning. Lomond View Academy have partnered up with Finlaystone Park and we are hoping to engage our younger learners in a 10 week program which will  promote an understanding and appreciation of the natural environment while providing advice and information. Ranger-led events such as den building, mini beast hunts, nature walks and animal experiences are some of the things our young people can expect from #FinlaystoneFridays!

First Aid at Lomond View

Staff and senior pupils at LVA recently had the opportunity to become accredited in both:

  • Emergency First Aid at Work
  • Introduction to First Aid for Mental Health

The course was run by St Andrews First Aid and was a thorough success for both staff and pupils who are now accredited for the next three years.

Many thanks to Martyn from St Andrews First Aid for his tuition and support.
