Teaching is more than just a profession
It was near impossible to escape the world of education due to growing up with a primary teacher, now primary head teacher, for a mother and a principle teacher of physical education for a father alongside numerous family friends who are also involved in education. From a young age I was constantly in a variety of different schools when my own school had an in-service day or bank holiday for example, being exposed to the chance of helping out in classes of different ages with their art work, numeracy, literacy and much more. I took great delight in these opportunities and could only imagine what it would be like one day to have my very own class to run. Fast forward some years and I have just embarked on my new adventure at university with the aspiration of becoming a qualified primary teacher.
To have the privilege of teaching young children and helping them create their own pathways in life is an honour. Having the capability of shaping and moulding them in preparation for later life is a task to be taken on with great courage and confidence. Children look not only to their teachers to not only teach them the alphabet or how to do the eight times table but for needs that are out with the curriculum. For some children, their school teacher may be the only positive role model they have in their life, the only adult they feel they can speak to when something is bothering the, the only person who will listen to them in their time of need. To have such an impact as this on a child’s life is something truly special. I feel extremely humbled to have started my training in order to do such things and look forward to the forthcoming opportunities and challenges that the next four years, and the rest, will bring to me.
