‘Mum’s’ the word

Until about a year ago, I had no idea what I wanted to be or even who I wanted to be when I ‘grow up’. Its a difficult position to be in, not knowing where you want to go in life, everyday you look for little things to inspire you, suggesting that you will be okay and that you do have a future. All that time I took deciding what I wanted to be feels like a waste, but at the same time it helped me grow and learn new aspects about myself that I had never seen before.
.
When it comes down to it, there is only 2 main reasons that lead me to choosing teaching. The first of which is the time that I spent not knowing what to do with my life. Taking a break from school, being lost in life and not knowing where I will be heading in my future, turned out to be the best time for me to decide what I wanted to be. Feeling lost helped me to realise that I can make sure that no one else feels this way. If I could make a difference to someone, somewhere about who they are, then I would be preventing them feeling the way that I have felt. This is one of the two main reasons I chose teaching. Teaching gives me a platform to inspire children and a young age, where they can truly learn who they are and what they want to be. Being lost actually helped me become ‘not lost’.
.
The second main reason that I decided that I wanted to be a teacher is my mother. My mother is a pupil support assistant at my local primary school. The school I went to as a child. My mother loves her job, and regrets that she never took it further to become a teacher. Her love and compassion. Just to make a difference to one child made my mum so happy and I want to do the same and have the same happiness in my life. My mother made me aware of how children are all different. Each child has a different culture, background and character, and they all have to be treated in that different way. They all have different needs, and it is their right to have these needs fulfilled, and my mother has helped point in a direction where I can firsthand make a difference to someone, no matter of background, culture or who they are. My mother has always been there for me and I want that opportunity to recreate that sense of trust, that was created for me as a child.
.
There are so many other reasons why I want to be a teacher; I love working with kids and helping others, but these are the main reasons that lead me to being who I am today.
