Creative Use of Digital Technologies to Support Developing Bilingual Learners

Keynote speaker: Chris Pim – Case studies in using ICT to support EAL learners.

Chris Pim worked for Portsmouth Ethnic Minority Achievement Service for 11 years and currently works part-time for Hampshire Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service and also as an independent ICT and EAL educational consultant.  Over the last few years, he has worked in partnership with a wide variety of local authorities and runs an EAL training programme for Osiris Education.  Chris works with local universities to train student teachers on how to support EAL learners and teaches on Hampshire’s Masters Level programme entitled ‘Teaching English as an additional language’ (TEAL).   He acts as an author and researcher for a number of publishers, including The Open University, The British Council, Education City, Mantra Lingua, Talking Products, Smart Learning and Texthelp Ltd.  Chris has also written two books about learning English as an additional language: ‘How to support children learning EAL’ (LDA Learning 2010) and ‘100 ideas for supporting learners with EAL’ (Continuum 2012).
