Family Learning Events

We offer regular family learning events in the school that serve to inform our families and ensure they feel part of their child’s education and part of the school community of Rosshall Academy.

Below you will see a list of upcoming events at the school. Many are run in partnership with Glasgow Clyde College and offer recognised qualifications upon completion.

iPad help session for Parents/ Carers Really useful session run by the Digital Coordinators at the school, aimed at helping parents/ carers help their pupils with digital learning- particularly the uses of the iPads.

4 outcomes / 30 hour unit / 20 hours teaching time*

This accredited unit provides learners with an introduction to ICT. It aims to provide learners with the practical skills and knowledge required to identify and use the main components of a PC or laptop; create, save and print a simple word document; use e-mail to communicate and exchange basic information; demonstrate basic use of the internet; develop confidence and skills in using at least one digital device. This enjoyable and instructive course is very practical in nature with the majority of the learning being hands-on. This unit provides learners with skills to use ICT for job seeking, in employment and in their personal life.
Basic Sewing Skills SCQF Level 3

4 outcomes / 30 hour unit / 24 hours teaching time*

 

This accredited unit provides learners with a basic foundation in machine sewing. The unit aims to introduce learners to the basic skills required to operate a domestic sewing machine alongside basic sewing techniques such as marking, cutting and stitching. Learners are able to produce a finished sewn product as part of their unit assessment. This enjoyable and instructive course is very practical in nature with the majority of the learning being hands-on. The unit will provide learners with the opportunity to develop their confidence and to express themselves creatively. Learners will gain practical skills, which they can continue to develop within the creative industry areas.

 

Face Painting for a Community Event SCQF Level 4

4 outcomes / 40 hour unit / 24 hours teaching time*

This accredited unit provides learners with the basics of face painting for use at a community event.

The aim of the unit is to provide learners with the practical skills and knowledge to research, plan and implement face painting as a community activity. Outcomes for the unit include identifying products used in face painting within a community event; performing techniques used in face painting; planning and design face painting suitable for a community event; performing application and removal techniques used in face painting. This enjoyable and instructive course is very practical in nature with the majority of the learning being hands-on. The unit will provide learners with the opportunity to develop their confidence and to express themselves creatively.

Introduction to Video Conferencing:

Assisting online meets for learning, work and family SCQF Level 3

2 outcomes / 20 hour unit / 12 hours teaching time*

 

This accredited unit is designed for learners who wish to understand the basics of video conferencing in order to undertake activities such as online learning, interviewing for jobs, supporting their children’s learning and engaging in family and social activity through apps such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meets. This unit aims to provide practical ICT skills from the downloading of the app to the setting up and hosting of online meets, including sharing documents, setting up breakout rooms and recording meetings. The unit will allow the students to assess which video conferencing app would most suit their needs in differing situations. It will further allow learners to explore how to maximise their presence as a video conference attendee by using chat facilities, document sharing and video conferencing protocols.
ESOL English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

 

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses help you to improve your Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking skills in English. Our courses prepare you for further study and getting a job. Studying ESOL at Glasgow Clyde College will also increase your confidence to speak English for everyday life in Glasgow:
– social situations – with friends and classmates
– work
– going to the doctor
– helping your children at school
