The Scottish Violence Reduction Unit is a national centre of expertise on violence. Part of Police Scotland, the SVRU targets violence wherever it occurs whether it’s on the streets, in our schools or in our homes. Supported by the Scottish Government, the unit has adopted a public health approach treating violence as an infection which can be cured. The SVRU is the only Police member of the World Health Organisation’s Violence Prevention Alliance.
The SVRU believe violence is preventable – not inevitable.
Fearless is a site where you can access non-judgemental information and advice about crime and criminality. It provides a safe place to give information about crime-100% anonymously.
Respectme is Scotland’s national anti-bullying service and is funded by Scottish Government. The site includes policy and resources for parents, professionals and children and young people.
This site explains domestic abuse, updates on issues and campaigns and has a helpline for those affected by domestic abuse.
This site has a helpline, information on sexual violence and updates on campaigns and issues.
Stop it Now is a child protection charity that believes that the key to preventing sexual abuse is awareness among parents and community members. They work to build public confidence in recognising and responding to concerns about the sexual abuse and exploitation of children and provide support services to individuals and their families with problematic sexual thoughts and those who may be at risk of sexual offending, including those who are under investigation for internet offences. A helpline is available.
Knife Violence Prevention Scotland – No Knives Better Lives
NKBL is a Scottish national programme that aims to deter young people from carrying knives. It is a collaboration between Scottish Government and YouthLink Scotland (the national agency for youth work in Scotland). The campaign aims to raise awareness of the consequences and information for young people, parents and practitioners to share these messages.
Shakti Women’s Aid (shaktiedinburgh.co.uk)
Shakti Women’s Aid helps BME women, children, and young people experiencing, or who have experienced, domestic abuse from a partner, ex-partner, and/ or other members of the household. We also work closely with the Scottish Government, Police Scotland, NHS Scotland, and other statutory and voluntary services. We provide training and consultancy for agencies working with BME women, children, and young people.
