Rowan’s Nest

IMG_3977[1]  Today Rowan brought a beautiful bird’s nest into Nursery.  Her neighbour had found it in their garden shed, and kindly given it to Rowan and her family.  We looked at how beautifully it was made.  It was light as a feather and it had leaves, twigs and moss woven into it.  There was even some animal hair in the wee bit where the eggs must have been laid.  We thought it must have been quite a little bird that made it.

Rowan decided that she wanted to put it out in the garden in a tree so that another wee bird might use it to lays its eggs in.  May was really interested and watched while Rowan found the perfect spot – in the branches of a tree.IMG_3976[1]

Graduation Week

Big excitement today – Green, Blue and Yellow graduations are at 11am this morning in the Infant Gym hall.  Please bring tissues!

Tomorrow we do it again for the Red and Orange groups – same time, same place!

We have been enrolling our new wee ones for next year over the last couple of weeks – they look so tiny compared to our big Nursery grads!  Where have the last 2 years gone?

Sports

On Friday it’s Sports Day – we are sure the sun is going to shine for us.  The morning sports is at 11am in the Nursery Playground and the afternoon sports, which will include our all day children, will take place in the playground at 3.10pm.   We hope you have been in training for the adults races- there are fabulous cups to be won!! As usual, no expense has been spared!

We are into the final week of nursery – 7 sleeps till the last day!!  Not that we are counting!

Shiver me timbers – A Pirate Party to Remember!

tToday was an exciting day in Nursery – the final event in our Joint Active Learning Project with Primary 1 – our Big Pirate Party.  We were all divided into our Pirate Crews – the Black Pearl, the Emerald Raider, the Fiery Parrot and the Golden Dawn.  Two crews at a time went Treasure Hunting on the Island, and the other two crews took part in jolly pirate frollicks in the playground- playing Tug O’ War and Port and Starboard.  The treasure hunters first had to look for their crew’s clues.  These were jigsaw pieces hidden round the garden on their crew colours.  We had to look very hard indeed to find all the parts of the jigsaw for our crew, on which the big clue was written.

The crew of the Golden Dawn had a yellow jigsaw to find.

IMG_3873[1]

As each piece was found we all helped to put the jigsaw together

IMG_3880[1]

Ollie read the clue – it told us the treasure could be found under the board walk. Joe was very quick to find it and bring it back to the rest of the crew

IMG_3884[1]

Wow- the treasure box was full of golden coins- chocolate ones – the very best kind of treasure!

Captain Maureen directs a fun game of Port and Starboard. Our favourite move was definitely “Captain’s Girlfriend!”

Eating our treasure!

The Black Pearl’s completed clue.

IMG_3893[1]

The Black Pearl’s crew had to dig between the rocks!

IMG_3888[1]

It was tough work, digging, but they finally hit something with their spades!

IMG_3894[1]

Mattie pulled out the treasure box – hygienically wrapped in a sealed plastic bag!!

IMG_3937[1]

The clue for the Fiery Parrot crew told them to look up above the stone squirrel. Theirs was a treasure nest in a tree!

IMG_3941[1]The Emerald Raider’s treasure was found 3 paces from the willow tunnel, buried in the long grass!   At last all the treasure had been found!

Ahar there me hearties!

Donald the Dentist’s Dog visits nursery

IMG_3828[1]

Donald the Dog chose the Frozen sunglasses – the dentist counted his 20 teeth!

Today the Dentist visited nursery to count the teeth of all our little ante-pre-schoolers.  She brought a special friend called Donald, who showed us exactly what we should do.  We could choose either Minion or Frozen sunglasses to wear and we had to lie on the table and open our mouths wide.  Our teeth were counted and lots of us had 20!!  Afterwards, we climbed down and could choose a special sticker to wear to show how super we had been.

Wow! Tadpoles with legs!

IMG_3847[1] Today our frog watchers noticed something amazing. Ronnie noticed what he said was, “A frog with a tail!” A couple of our tadpoles had grown both back and front legs.  Elisabeth helped catch one so we could take his/her picture.  “He’s almost a real frog now!” said Ella Rose.

Budding Architect

IMG_2697[1]

This is the amazing structure that Harris built at the construction area yesterday.  He took time to make it symmetrical and it is definitely a grand design of the future.IMG_2696[1] IMG_2694[1]

Harris was very proud of his building and his mum let us put his picture on the blog.  Amazing work Harris!

Sam – the creator of a new phone and headphones

IMG_2692[1]

On Tuesday morning Sam was in his favourite place – sitting at the writing table.  It was not to be a writing day though – he felt a bit creative. ” I’m making a phone!” he said.  He cut it out and drew the buttons.  “Now I need headphones- do we have any string?”  Kate sourced the string and they worked out that they needed to tie 2 bits together for the headphones.  Sam then used paper and cut 2 wee ear pieces.  He carefully sellotaped them on – next he sellotaped the headphones to the phone and got plugged in.  What a clever lad!  I wonder what he’s listening to?IMG_2693[1]

Art work for Primary 1

IMG_3777[1] IMG_3778[1] IMG_3779[1] IMG_3780[1]  This is some of the fantastic artwork done at Valerie’s painting table last week.    She put the paints out in glass jars and encouraged the children to use the colours one at a time.  The results were amazing!  These pictures are going to Primary 1, both at Milngavie and Craigdhu, so that our wee stars all have a piece of their own work on the wall, when they arrive on the very first day.  We hope that reminding them to look for their painting will make them feel more at home in their new class.
