Lynn has been working on Nursery rhymes and art with the children this week in the Art Area.  Come and see the amazing scenes she and the children have created!!

Lauren loves painting – here she is in creative action painting a wonderful picture using palette paints- tricky because you have to wash your brush between colours!  Lauren has really mastered it though and made an amazing painting.  She also took the final picture of her masterpiece using the Nursery ipad!IMG_0091[1] IMG_0093[1]

Ellis, too, loved the palette paints – “Look – TA DAH!!!” he said, very proud of his artistic creation!IMG_0099[1] Role play – a tough day at the office for Emily and Anna!

This week we have welcomed  new students to our nursery.  Above are Emily McKendrick, from Old Kilpatrick, who is an NC Student at West College Scotland and Christie Yuill, from Killearn, who is an NC student at Glasgow Clyde College.  Both these lovely girls are studying for an NC in Early Education and Childcare.  They will be with us every Thursday and Friday.

Blue and Orange Groups Go to the Gym

Apologies – no pictures – forgot to take the camera.  The blue and orange groups had a visit to the gym this morning with Lynn and Kate.  They played lots of fun games including Traffic Lights, The Bean Game (where our favourite was definitely the French Bean!) ,  Big Brown Bear and Duck-duck-goose.  We had fun playing with a huge parachute and keeping the balls from falling off as the wind blew from a gentle breeze to a Force 10 Gale!  We also practised our throwing and catching.  All our children were brilliant this morning – there was lots of good listening and we had a great time! We can’t wait to go again!

In the writing area Julie asked the children to tell her their bear stories – she wrote down what they said – we got some wonderful stories.  Have a read!

What are we learning about this week

Happy Monday!  Now that we have all settled in, it’s time to learn how we do things, and why, in Milngavie Nursery.  It’s time to look at our rules for working and playing and make up our new Nursery Charter – our rules for the year.  Over the week we will be talking with the children about the areas of our nursery and how to keep safe and happy in them.  We will be thinking about how we talk to each other and how we respect our environment, both indoors and out.

Over the weekend there has been a magnificent amount of work done in our Orchard by the brilliant volunteers who turned up en masse to help.  There is a home for toads, beautiful banks of flowering plants and tons of wonderful tree mulch made from the chipped tree waste from last week.  We will be taking the children out to look at all the new developments and get their ideas on them.

We are welcoming new students this week on Monday and Thursday- details to follow soon.

If you haven’t visited our Bear Cave or 3 Bears Cottage, please feel free to have a look – the bears have been decorating – Maureen has expertly papered their cottage with fabulous Geometric wall paper – very designer!!!!!!

Arty afternoon

IMG_4394[1] IMG_4391[1]

On  her very first day in nursery, Anna created a beautiful piece of transient art using glass and drawing.  She would have really liked to take it home, but the beads were not stuck on, so we have promised she can see it on the blog and we are going to print a photo of it for her special book.

IMG_4390[1] IMG_4392[1]

Ava and Aruv also enjoyed making fabulous pictures!

IMG_4382[1]  Snack was also a creative experience this afternoon.  We made bear sandwiches with bread, chocolate spread, bananas and blueberries. Yum!  As you can see our food sculptures were highly individual and some of our sandwich bears had as many as 10 banana ears on!  We love an abstract reaction to arty activities and as with everything in nursery, it is the process- the learning and fun we have- which is the most important thing!

IMG_4370[1] IMG_4376[1] IMG_4378[1] IMG_4374[1] We ended up with some very arty looking chocolate painted faces too!

IMG_4388[1]  Lauren told Annabelle that she wanted to draw a frog.  Annabelle brought a frog book out into the garden and together they looked at all the different parts of the frog.  Lauren then went on to draw this great frog with webbed feet and sticky tongue. Well done Lauren!

Sonny – Milngavie Nursery’s answer to David Baillie

DSC00097 DSC00099 DSC00104 DSC00100 DSC00103 DSC00106 DSC00116 DSC00108 DSC00110 DSC00112

All these beautiful images of our garden were taken by one of our pre-school boys – Sonny.  He loves taking photos and it was quite amazing what he captured – all by himself.  After he had taken his photos we were having a chat about cameras in the Willow Tunnel with Struan and Guera.  We learned that you must be very careful with cameras because they are expensive and they can break easily.  We also learned that the lens is the glass on the front which takes the picture and the lens moves in and out if you use the W and T button on our camera.  We are not sure what W and T stand for but we are going to find out.  Sonny has agreed to help Kate, Struan and Guera learn to use the camera and find out more about it so we can tell everyone what else it can do.  We’ll let you know how we get on!
