Eileen gets our afternoon children, well and truly, into a Sensory Experience!!!

img_19761 img_19811 img_19851

Eileen provided a fun, sensory experience for the afternoon children today.  She put out 3 trays, 1 containing porridge oats, 1 with shaving foam and one with red paint.  The children were invited to try standing in the trays in their bare feet to see which one they liked best, and after they stood in the lovely, sticky icky red paint they walked onto a piece of paper to get a print of their lovely wee bare tootsies.  Lucy was at the ready with a nice warm bucket of soapy water and a clean towel at the end of it all.  Really good fun, laughter  and an amazing amount  of descriptive vocabulary!  Look at how many wee people Eileen managed to talk into trying this mad experience- she is a very persuasive lady!

Strawberry and Chocolate Ice Cream!!

Here are some of the photos we took of the ice cream makers on Wednesday and Thursday of last week.  They created another 2 delicious flavours – making 5 in total.  It was great fun but hard work!  We are all really looking forward to tasting all 5 flavours on Friday!

What is inside our body?

This week Maureen used the puzzle which shows different layers of the inside of the body, to help children draw pictures of their internal organs.  The drawings are fabulous!!  Come and see them on the wall of the hospital!!img_17571 img_17531 img_17541 img_17561

Enjoyaball!

This morning we had great fun at Enjoyaball.  We had to hide our eyes on the magic bench while Gary set up a fun tightrope activity.  First we had to walk along the rope with our arms outstretched – it was quite tricky – we had to concentrate really hard.  Then Gary made things even harder – we had to walk along the rope with our hands on our ears – this was even trickier.  We all worked really hard at it and Gary gave us a special sticker for great work!                                                                    img_17751img_17781 img_17851 img_17891 img_17831 img_17951

Making Ice Cream!

img_17411 img_17441img_17491

On Monday morning Angela embarked on her Ice Cream making mission.  The first batch was made from Double Cream, Condensed Milk and Vanilla essence.  Funnily enough – it was vanilla flavour.  We used an electric blender to mix all the ingredients and then Scott helped put it in a plastic container. Zach and Coen then put it safely into the deep freeze!

Today another intrepid band of ice cream makers set about making Peppermint Chocolate chip flavour.  They used Double Cream, Condensed Milk, Peppermint Essence and Chocolate chip.  It smelled delicious.  Oliver mixed all the ingredients using the hand blender and then Emily put the chocolate chips in!

Tomorrow we will make Strawberry flavour with real strawberries and on Thursday we are going to create a banana ice cream.  Friday is going to be a fabulous day – not only are we wearing our jammies to nursery, but we are having a blindfolded ice cream tasting session where we guess the flavour.  I can hardly wait!!!!img_17641

Facebook page users – an apology!

If

you use the facebook page to keep up with nursery news, I am sorry – I didn’t quite get it together at the beginning of November – Twitterfeed stopped twitting our blog to the facebook page and we didn’t spot it for a couple of days.  As a result you may have missed your wee darling’s Halloween picture in our Halloween Parade post.  If you did, you can still check it out if you visit our blog page- https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/glowblogs/milngavienursery

Monday morning is here again! What’s on this week?

We’ve been looking at how we draw plans and are making a big plan of the orchard on a wall in the discovery room.  We are continuing on the theme of how we can  show people information by exploring a pictogram graph at group time this week. Each group is going to make a pictogram graph showing eye colours in their group and then we are going to make a big one to put on the wall in the hall so everyone can see.  Data handling is part of our  maths this year and it is a fun way to explore it.

We are fixing broken bones in the hospital this week and printing in the art area.  There is a lovely idea on the plan for some blindfold ice cream tasting.  I’m getting in the queue for that!  We are exploring capacity and transferring amounts in the water tray and there might be a bit of Troll Dancing on the cards for later in the week. We have started practising our Xmas songs for our concert too.

Enjoyaballs is on Tuesday for the morning group and on Wednesday for the afternoon children and Gary will be back to show us some more fun games.

We are meeting Twiggle and his puppet friends this week in our PATHS -Promoting Alternative Thinking Skills- lesson.  We should have met them last week but Daphne Duck absconded and just couldn’t be found!  We have borrowed another Daphne from the Infant Dept so this week we are good to go!

On Friday we are having a wear your Jammies to Nursery day for Children in Need.  If you wish you can make a £1 donation to Children in Need for the priviledge.  All the staff are looking forward to it and the NC students have chosen their jammies and onesies already!

Looking forward to another fab week – hope yours is good too!

Weather music with Mr Snappy and Susan

Susan talked about what we need to wear when the weather is cold and we sang a song about winter clothes.

Outdoor Play – Cafe and Carwash

Maureen and Lucy are on outdoor play just now and have been working hard to follow the children’s interests and create an exciting learning environment.  This morning Maureen created a car wash with the children and it was extremely busy all morning with lots of cars and bikes needing cleaned.  If you click on the img link you should be able to download a wee video of the carwash in action.

The cafe had outdoor tables - the cold weather affected the number of customers using them.

Remembrance Day Poppies

Our NC Student, Emily McKendrick chose a lovely art activity for today.  We had been talking about why people wear poppies on 11th November and Emily encouraged the children to use red and black paint to print – look at the amazing pictures they created.
