Parents’ Focus Group

Many thanks to Angela and Kerry for coming along to the focus group yesterday and to Shona, Suzanne, Mhairi and Gillian for their ideas and contribution to the discussion.  We had a good meeting and decided that the introduction of e- journals was a fairly major decision for the Nursery and that it would be good to ask the opinions of all parents through a parental questionnaire.  We will do this in the new year.  Many thanks again – We really appreciate your opinions!

Lynn’s December Nursery Newsletter

Nursery News

We have been enjoying all things autumnal, over the last month and we are getting ready for another busy month.  Our Gingerbread House, in the imaginative area, which the children asked for and planned, is very busy and there is still a lot of interest in role play.

There is an Elves area in the story corner which the children are very excited about.  Some elves have already arrived in the nursery which has created a lot of excitement amongst the children.

We are looking for some interesting Scottish words to put into our Milngavie Nursery Scottish Dictionary in our Book Corner.  Please could you write your favourite word down and return it to us.

Once again Christmas is upon us.  We’d like to invite the boys and girls to help decorate our tree by bringing in a Christmas bauble to put on the tree.  Please make sure you put their name somewhere on the decoration and it can be taken home after the holidays.

Winter is definitely coming, so please send your child in warm clothes so we can enjoy outdoor play.  Don’t forget the ever important welly boots!!  It is really ideal if you can leave a pair in nursery in your child’s welly boot box – it makes life a lot easier when dressing to go out!  Many thanks!

Dates for the Diary

Tuesday 6th  December

Our big Christmas Concert will take place in the Infant Gym Hall at 11.00am.  Afternoon children are invited to come and sing too.  Please bring your child to the nursery for 10.45am, we will escort them across to the concert and you can collect your child from the hall after the concert.  Your children are more than welcome to wear a Christmas Jumper.  We love to raise the roof with our lovely Christmas songs and everyone is invited to come and see us.

Friday 16th December

Our Christmas Parties!  Both morning and afternoon sessions have a Christmas Party- we are hoping that a special man in red will deliver some presents!  Families are invited to come and watch him.   Children who do not attend on the party day are welcome to attend to see Santa.  We will confirm times for this once we have been notified by the Elves Admin at the North Pole as to when he will be arriving.

Our full time children who attend Nursery on a Monday will be able to enjoy a Christmas Lunch.

Wednesday 21st December– last day of nursery!  Normal nursery hours!

Tiny wee door appears in our hall!

Is this how they are getting in to Nursery?

Is this how they are getting in to Nursery?

A wee door appeared in the skirting board beside the Nursery kitchen door yesterday – it seems to be locked, tight shut!  It might just explain the elfy goings on that we have been capturing on our cameras!!

Nursery Parents’ Focus Group- Please come along-free coffee and tea!!

We are hoping to have a Nursery Parents’ Focus Group meeting this Thursday afternoon between 3.30 and 4pm.  At our last one, Kate  was left to focus by herself as no one came!!  We are hoping to get some opinions on e-journals which we are investigating just now.  They would involve a major investment initially and we would love to know  a) if you think they would be useful and what parents want and, b) your ideas on our various plans to fund them.  We can have a look at them online to see what benefits they would offer.  There will be a cup of coffee or tea and cake and biscuits – any amount you want!!! Please think of coming along.  If you can’t make it and have a suggestion please either speak to Kate or leave a wee note for her!!!   Many thanks!

More Elves!

The wee guys in green have started turning up when we least expect them in our nursery.  Our security cameras have caught them peering in the windows and even in our art cupboard.  The children have been hunting for them all day -but they seem to be a bit shy- Dexter thought they maybe just come out at night.  Holly thought it might be nice to leave food out for them.  We think they might be looking at our nursery to see if we are all behaving- I can report that it has already had a really good effect on the staff’s behaviour!!

Here are another couple of sightings we captured – I know some of the children were keen to show their mums and dads!

Wee Porridge Monster!

Today, as part of our Scottish week activities- we had some lovely porridge oats in the water tray.  Mixed with water they turned lovely and gloopy and were a fabulous sensory experience.  This afternoon our lovely Orla got right into the experience and ended up wearing quite a lot of the porridge – so much so, at first we thought she must have had a bucket of it tipped over her head!!  She thought it was hilarious!  We did our best to clean her up and when her grandpa came to collect her, he was very understanding!  Even after we showed him this picture!!!  Phew!img_24211

The Elves have arrived!

The Elves have arrived in the Discovery room – Lynn is creating the elves’ workshop in the Story Corner and they children are really excited about it!  There have been sightings of elves in other parts of the nursery too- peeking out of the chimney in the Ginger Bread House and spying through the window in the art area too!  We are all on our very best behaviour!
