This morning the children talked about what we could replace the hairdressers with, and decided as we have had an interest in finding out about bodies, that a doctor’s surgery would be great. Maureen took down the ideas and we are going to try to find as many of these things as we can for next week- the x-ray machine might provide a wee bit of a challenge! If any of you have a spare one at home, we’d love to borrow it!

Please, please please make sure your child has a pair of wellies that can be left at nursery, with their name clearly marked on them. Now the rain has stopped (!) we hope to be out in the garden more often and wellies are essential for maximum fun.

All ELCC places are allocated by East Dunbartonshire Council’s Early Years Department Admissions Panel, in accordance with the Council’s Admission Policy.
We offer a two year placement in our Early Learning and Childcare Centre (ELCC) setting: Children can begin in the term following their third birthday. We have a full curriculum developing a child’s educational requirements over two years, covering all eight key aspects of learning outlined in the Scottish Executive’s Curriculum for Excellence.
Places can be provided either in a local authority nursery or with a recognised provider in the private and voluntary sector who have been accepted onto East Dunbartonshire Council’s framework to provide pre-school education.
For administration purposes, parents are asked to complete an online registration form on the Council’s website at www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk in January. Relevant birth certificate(s) and proof of residency are required when enrolling child(ren) if they are East Dunbartonshire residents. Parents who reside outwith East Dunbartonshire do not require proof of residency. Help is available by calling the Early Years Helpline on 0141 578 8707.

As part of the Nursery’s hard work for Children In Need the Nursery received a visit from Pudsey himself back in November, and he even stopped for a selfie!

The strong report made the following general observations relating to the nursery education offered to our children:
Children in the nursery class and at the primary stages are happy, settled and enjoy positive relationships with staff and each other. Almost all children report that they are well cared for and enjoy being at school. Children at the primary stages are highly engaged in their learning. This is particularly evident as they respond to the challenges of their topics. Across the school, children are confident, polite and very well-behaved. Children in the nursery class learn through a range of engaging play activities. They particularly enjoy their learning in the outdoor area. Children talk to staff about what they would like to learn and staff take account of children’s interests. For example, an evolving interest in aeroplanes was fostered well by staff to stimulate and involve children in rich learning experiences.
In the nursery class, children are making very good progress in developing their literacy and numeracy skills. They listen well to each other and follow simple instructions. Older children attempt to write their own name and a few made their own books about the lifecycle of a butterfly. Most children are developing their early 2 number skills well in their play. They demonstrate a keen interest in big numbers as they play games with staff. Children counted and recorded the different creatures that live in their nursery garden. We have asked staff to continue to develop children’s skills in real-life activities such as this.
