Day 8

We woke up early at 5 am for the final time with heavy hearts knowing it would be our final mass with the boys and we had to say goodbye. During mass miss McFadden did a speech reflecting on our trip and we all sang the Malawian and Scottish national anthem which made us all extremely emotional. After mass we did not return to the fathers house for breakfast as usual as we stayed down at the chapel with the boys as we did not to leave and wanted to say a proper goodbye. We stood outside the chapel with the boys for around an hour taking photos, singing songs, and hugging for one last time. After that we didn’t want to leave and father Edmond had to round us up and walk us out as we were all so upset to be leaving our new best friends.

Afterwards we all went to the maternity hospital to visit pregnant mothers and babies that needed things, We all had one teddy each to give to the babies and sick children in the wards. All of the mothers and children were so happy as they had never been gifted things by others, after the mothers received the gifts they all sang us a beautiful song in return the smile on their faces made everyone so happy knowing we helped people in need.

After the hospital we drove an hour and a half to Mayoka village to stay the night. We went to our rooms where it was the boys in one room and the girls in another room. We all got changed into different clothes and went down to the bar to get some lunch. The bar was so beautiful it looked right over the water and was open aired. Chantelle and I (Emily) played a game of bawo which is a game we learned to play and grew to love while at St. Patrick’s. We also met up with another school from Largs that had also stopped at the village after staying at a school in Malawi. They were all very lovely. After eating an amazing lunch we went back up to the room and just chilled and chatted about the amazing time we got to have at St. Patrick’s. After getting ready for dinner we went back down to the bar and had a mocktail while waiting for our meal. After we had eaten we all cried again while reminiscing about how privileged we are to have had such an amazing experience. We all dried our eyes and got up to have a dance to make ourselves feel better. After just sitting and chatting with the group and our new friends from Largs we went back up to our rooms to get ready for bed. We were all so tired from the long day we had and after lights off everyone fell asleep almost immediately.
