Safety Inspect Monitor Observe Act
SIMOA –
By promoting a SIMOA approach in our Early Years Centre we are building a foundation for our children to grow, learn and explore with a deeper understanding of safety, responsibility and respect.
In our setting we are;
Incorporating SIMOA into our PATHS lessons:
Article 19- The right to protection;
Developing safety in our setting allows us to ensure our children are safeguarded from potential risks. Learning how to keep themselves safe and identify potential risks and how to avoid these will be a priority during our SIMOA PATHS sessions.
Using visuals in the playroom: pictures, posters, and labels around the room to remind children of key safety rules.
Safety Mascot: We have introduced our SIMOA safety officer who “loves safety” and helps remind us all to look out for potential risks.
Safety Officer: While out on our walks in the community we are bringing SIMOA along with us as well as introducing some of the children to being safety officers, they will complete our risk assessments, ensure we all have our vests on and do head counts. This gives children a key role in being responsible for their own safety as well as their peers.
This approach helps children understand and remember these safety concepts in a way that’s engaging and accessible.
