The GIRFEC National Practice Model provides a framework for considering and responding to children’s additional support needs. Practitioners should start by asking the five GIRFEC questions if they have concerns about a child:

• What is getting in the way of this child’s wellbeing?
• Do I have all the information I need to help this child?
• What can I do now to help this child or young person?
• What can my early years establishment do to help this chid?
• What additional help, if any, may be needed from others?
