The Forth Valley and West Lothian Regional Improvement Collaborative Health and Wellbeing rationale

Welcome to the Health and Wellbeing blog for the Forth Valley and West Lothian RIC. My name is Gillian Campbell and I am leading the RIC workstream in addition to my post as Curriculum Support Officer (HWB) for Falkirk Council’s Service and School Improvement Team.

The 4 local authorities are represented on our main steering group by myself (Falkirk Council), Jennifer Abernethy (Stirling), Jaki Reid (Clackmannanshire) and Karen Brown (West Lothian).  At the beginning of 2020 we met and decided to speak to staff, pupils and partners in each area and bear in mind the Scottish Government recommendations from the national thematic review before pulling together our priorities and plan our collective priorities for the PSE curriculum.

The decision was taken to begin by looking at Substance Use, initially for the Senior Phase as this was where the biggest gap existed in terms of resources and staff training.  The hope would be that we can add to this to cover Early-Fourth level as well, eventually.

Our working group to take forward this work, and help create an online resource with professional learning to complement, will meet (online) on December 2nd to begin.  If you would like to be part of this group or for us to bear you in mind when we move to looking at other stages then please get in touch with us.
