Fever Scratch animation

I made a Scratch animation based of Fever. I think this my best scratch animation because I put a lot of time and effort into it. It took some debugging but I think it turned out really well and I am proud of it. I had to edit or make all of my sprites and edit or make my backgrounds apart for one or my backgrounds I didn’t edit. I think I am better at making Scratch animations now and I really enjoyed make it.

Here is my Scratch

The Little Unicorn Kitty

For the first time ever  I used online word to make a story. My story was called The Little Unicorn kitty. I had to draw the pictures and then I had to use the camera to take a photo of them. Then I put them in my story. I think my story went out pretty good. I also think it was fun.

Coding using Scratch

Today I made a scratch coding interaction between two sprites that I made and the sprites were Knuckles and Shadow from Sonic. I think this will help me in the future if I wanted to code a game and have a career in that sort of thing. The skills I was using were planning and organising because I had to plan what I was going to do with my interaction. I had to think creatively and make an interesting script.

code 2#

What I found difficult was making the sprites and coding them to do what I wanted them to do. The way of how I overcame the difficulties was by keep on trying and just keep on looking carefully and what code I had used and then you will eventually get it right. I knew I was successful by testing to see if it works and by finishing the sprites but I was there for a bit trying to see if it would work! I really like my code and I am going to build on it some more.

The Tooth Story by Mara and Emer

We learned how to share an online word story. We had two laptops and we did a sentence each. We learned to insert pictures on online word. We talked  a lot. We did four pictures each. We didn’t put the pictures at the end of the story we put them in the story to.

BYOD Glow Meet

To celebrate Digital Learning Week, today some of our Technical Troopers took part in a Glow Meet with Williamston Primary School to share our progress with Bring Your Own Device so far. Both schools shared how they have been using BYOD to enhance teaching and learning, and it certainly inspired our thinking and gave us some great ideas about what we could do next. Some of the pupils in Williamston have been using online tools to create their own profile pictures for their Yammer accounts, which has inspired P5 in Mid Calder to do the same.

Thank you to the pupils who gave up some of their lunch time to share some of the great examples of learning through digital technologies happening in both schools.

Anytime, Anywhere Learning: Socrative

Yesterday, Primary 5 used Socrative to demonstrate our learning about space and our Solar System. We completed a ‘Space Race’ which involved us being put into teams and racing to answer 25 questions all about what we have been learning about through our IDL context, Project Planetarium. We were able to track our progress on the SMART Board, which definitely encouraged us to be quick and accurate with our answers.

Today we expanded our use of Socrative, using it to demonstrate our knowledge of fractions during a mental maths warm up. We had to answer a range of different styles of questions including multiple choice and true or false. We’re looking forward to exploring other ways we can use Socrative in our classroom.

Primary 5 are storytellers

As part of digital learning week Primary 5 have been writing stories, with a digital twist! First we wrote a draft using traditional paper and pencil. Next we translated our stories into emojis. It was great fun (and more difficult than we thought it would be). Here are a few of our emoji stories (side by side with the traditional version). We hope you enjoy them!
