Live Lesson: Escape the DATAbase – an escape room challenge

Event Details

Our friends at Data Education In Schools from Edinburgh University invite you and your learners to become Trainee Agents of DATA to defend Scotland against the villainous high-tech VIKINGS!

Learners (agents!) will solve puzzles to defeat the evil time-travelling villains and foil their dastardly plans.

The Agents will have to use graphs, charts, maps and logic to uncover the plots and crack the secret codes.

Along the way they are introduced to the basics of internet infrastructure, data centres, cybersecurity, and other digital and data skills topics.

Briefing for Agents: You were working late on paperwork from your recent DATA mission and you’ve realised that you’ve been locked in the base. Solve the puzzles to get out without setting off the alarm.

Description of learners’ task: Learners use graphs and tables of data about theme park rides to answer questions. The answers to the questions provide them with the alarm code to be able to escape the base.

Information For Teachers: Learners will be provided guided through the task via the video link.  Learners will need access to the data sheets when taking part.  They can be downloaded and printed from the link below.  Once learners think they have cracked the code, they can check it by visiting the alarm code entry webpage and entering their response.

Learners can still take part even if they do not have access to a web browser to check their answer.  There is a paper based sheet they can fill in.  See below
