The advice from the National Cyber Security Centre for the UK is clear on what makes a stronger password: THREE RANDOM WORDS. We have created a short PowerPoint with ideas for teaching learners about creating stronger passwords. This is aimed at upper primary learners but could easily be adapted to younger and older learners.
When you are next prompted to create, or change a password; keep this in mind. It can also help, and most sites will insist upon, adding uppercase letters, numbers and punctuation or special characters, such as brackets.
Having a mixture of characters and three random words will make your password even harder to crack. However, the most important thing about keeping you, and your accounts, safe is to think about the information you share online – don’t give away personal information, such as your address or pet’s name as these can be used to help criminals guess your password.
