Nuffield STEM Futures – Cars

Nuffield STEM Futures website includes ideas and materials which could be used in conjunction with the STEM Central Electric Cars context for learning.

In the project, learners explored their relationship with cars and discussed how this will change in the future. Is there a future without car ownership?

The Nuffield STEM Futures website includes a variety of skills-based project work aimed at third level learners, on the theme of sustainability. Why not explore the website further?

Useful Circuits

Partners, IEEE, have shared with us support materials which could be used in conjunction with the STEM Central Electric Transport context for learning. This could be used as part of the Circuits Learning Journey.

These circuit activities encourage learners to test different circuit designs through the use of low voltage light bulbs, buzzers and switches.  Learners work in teams to design the circuits, and then build examples of the different circuits using the selected equipment.  The groups can then compare results and discuss findings.

F1 Technology Challenge

F1 in Schools founding partners Denford, BAE SYSTEMS and Jaguar are working together to produce an exciting educational experience for students and teachers alike, challenging negative stereotypes associated with engineering in a fun and positive way. F1 in Schools is a not-for-profit company with the aim of raising the profile of engineering as a career through the CAD/CAM Design Challenge. Students are given a brief to design a model CO2 powered F1 Car of the future using a CAD package such as Solid Edge. The teams compete regionally to win a place at the national final. Overall winners of the championship season go on to represent the UK and compete at the F1 in Schools World Championships.

Renewables Don’t Run Out

Partners, Chemical Industry Education Centre, have shared with us support materials which could be used in conjunction with the STEM Central Renewables context for learning.

The activities  provide practical opportunities for learners to consider the use of plant material (biomass) as a solution to some of our requirements for energy, to address the problems that use of these materials can pose and to begin thinking about other applications for plant derivatives.
