SLF 2011 – Creativity Lab film now viewable

As part of Creative Scotland’s presence at the Scottish Learning Festival 2011, the Molecules in Motion team worked collaboratively with 23 pupils from Gavinburn Primary School in West Dunbartonshire to produce a Creativity Lab. Festival delegates were invited to visit the Lab, where they could experience a busy working studio and witness the team at work. The Creativity Lab film provides a great insight into the project and those involved in making it happen.

In the run-up to the festival, Molecules in Motion and the pupils also produced four ‘How To’ videos to support the project, and provide a resource for teachers. Centred around a theme of Wow and Flutter, the films document the team’s preparation for the festival, as they explored the scientific and creative aspects of recording & editing soundtracks, print making, animation and dance.

Elgin heritage project seeks recruits http://www.moray.gov.uk/moray_news/news_76590.html
Community groups and individuals interested in Elgin’s heritage are being invited to join an exciting project led by the National Library of Scotland in partnership with Moray Council’s libraries service. Great Escapes involves the creation of multi-media tourist guides based on historic maps, images, films and memories of places. The project makes use of new technology to reinvent tourist guidebooks for the 21st century and also encourages people to explore the historic and natural environment in more depth. Local schools have already signed up but opportunities remain for community groups or individuals to become involved.

Marks on the Landscape: creativity across learning

Marks on the Landscape <http://newsletters-ltscotland.org.uk/LQE-JPN0-3GU5HR-7MD0U-1/c.aspx>  demonstrates possibilities for creative learning and teaching across the curriculum by raising questions, encouraging investigation and promoting challenges that will help young people to understand their capacity for creativity in all aspects of their lives, now and in the future. The website uses the context of the Fife Earth Project where designer Charles Jencks is currently transforming a former coalmine into an artwork and tourist attraction.

What’s happening at this year’s #slf11 Cultural Village?

An artist installation featuring artist collective Molecules in Motion undertaking a multi arts production process with a group of 24 children.

MIM have been working in a West Dunbartonshire primary to create four ‘how to films’ for teachers which will feature on our website and that of education Scotland as a teacher’s resources. These will include the activities that teacher can see demonstrated on the day; how to make print t-shirts, how to make a soundscape, how to create film and how to choreograph. The children will operate as a very visible ‘production’ team and will collect image and sound from around the venue as well as the stall. They have been working with the artists over a number of weeks within school.

In addition 3 flat screens will feature Creative Scotland resources including the joint Education Scotland Creativity Portal.

There may even be a surprise or two…
