The Travelling Gallery Autumn 11 exhibition, Waste Management, brings together two contemporary artists, both with an interest in transforming the familiar.
Jonathan Owen and Charlie Hammond will show new work made for the Travelling Gallery, including a series of collaborative new screen prints which form the core of the installation.

Both artists have been known to change the appearance of objects around them and use dark humour and absurdity in their work. Because of this balance of contrasts and shared concerns, this promises to be a fascinating and playful exhibition.

We hope you can join us for the launch event of the exhibition at 6pm on Thursday 25^thAugust at the City Art Centre, but there is also the opportunity to see the exhibition at the following venues during the Edinburgh Art Festival before the Travelling Gallery heads north –

‘Nowhere to hide’ as Kilmarnock pupils rise to the challenge of school events

Pupils at St Joseph’s Academy in Kilmarnock showed off their talent as fashion designers when they presented dresses, head pieces and jewellery they had designed to their peers, families and teachers in June.

The fashion show, entitled “Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass”, saw each pupil make a contribution, from designing fashion or jewellery to providing entertainment to modelling outfits.

More than 100 “pieces of creativity” were shown to 250 guests at the event, which had taken more than a year to prepare. Items such as head pieces, scarves and masks covered curriculum areas and had to meet SQA standards, said Gillian Gabriel, principal teacher of art.

With the new school term comes a new national site for Glow. It’s clean and fresh and there are a good few new resources and groups that users are sure to enjoy. We wanted a site that featured links for all users, so we’ve taken away some of the links that were just for staff and they can now be found in the national staff area, instead.

Glow TV will be a huge part of what we do in the coming year, so the new site features prominent links to both the full schedule and a monthly calendar, as well as a link to the schools’ channel page that explains how schools can get involved.
