Traditional musicians from Stirlingshire schools embark on tour

Young Stirlingshire traditional music band ‘No More Cages’ embark on their first tour thanks to the Scottish Music Centre’s ‘Hit the Road’ tour

No More Cages, a young folk band featuring some of the best up-and-coming traditional musicians from Stirlingshire schools, embarked on their first tour last week as part of the Scottish Music Centre’s ‘Hit the Road’ tour which is supporting some of Scotland’s best up-and-coming musicians and bands to experience their first tour and help them learn some of the skills they will need to go on tour themselves in the future. The band have been honing their skills together for the past three years as part of much larger YMI funded traditional music workshops that have been running for the past seven years and which many of the band have been coming to from the start. The workshops are based at the Tolbooth Music Venue in Stirling and are a partnership between Education and Cultural Services.

The workshops are open to any young musician attending a Stirling school and a number of the musicians that have attended the workshops have since gone on to study traditional music. For more information please contact nomorecagesband@gmail.com.
