Inclusion MSPs

Last year the Inclusions MSP’s did a lot of learning on equality and equity, identifying the how different levels of need require different levels of support. We found some visuals and analogies to help us understand this concept and then share this information with others. We touched on the Equality Act and began identifying the characteristics that are protected by law. We then did a lot of work to better understand how to position ourselves and develop the tools to promote anti-racism actions and attitudes across the school.

This included ideas for lessons to support teachers in delivering lessons that promote education and understanding. Our diverse MSP group stressed their desire to inform pupils and raise awareness to prevent discrimination and prejudice occurring in the school and ensure our school is a safe space for all and that every child feel valued and has a sense of belonging.

This year we have a younger group, we have discussed what inclusion means to us, how it makes us feel and why it is important. Friends were identified as one of the key features of inclusions and we discussed what makes a good friend. Which led us to consider how we can be more supportive and inclusive individuals. Next term we will go on to explore the protected characteristics and how we can ensure that all school stakeholders are respectful of each other in line with the Equality Act (2010) and the UNCRC Articles 2, 4, 23, 30.
